The United Nations Security Council session in Afghanistan and Central Asia begins in New York. At the meeting, Poland will be represented by Foreign Minister Jacek Chaputovych. It is reported by Upmp.news with reference to Polish Radio.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h2>\n

This meeting was convened by Kazakhstan, which presides over the Security Council in January. The situation in Afghanistan was one of the main topics of yesterday’s conversation of Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev with Donald Trump in the White House. The current president of the United States several months ago decided to increase the number of US forces in Afghanistan, he acknowledged that 11,000 soldiers are too few.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Last weekend, Security Council mission visited Afghanistan and stated that even though a progress had been made in stabilizing this country, its duration was threatened by a continuing conflict.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The representatives of the mission decided that one way to end this conflict could be direct talks between the government and the armed opposition.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Yesterday, the United States Ambassador to the United Nations, Nicky Hayley, said the Afghan authorities are getting closer to talks with the Taliban. Nikki Hayley also added that the Kabul government reports on Taliban actions and expressed its conviction that this is the merit of the new American strategy in Afghanistan.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
