IN JABLONKI, A MONUMENT TO THE COMMUNIST GENERAL KAROL SVERCHEVSKY WAS DEMOLISHED

In Pidcarpatske, a monument to the Polish General Stalinist of the Red Army was completely dismantled. It is reported by Upmp.news with reference to Polish Radio.

In Jablonky, the Pidcarpatske, the demolition of the monument to the communist General Stalinist Carol “Walter” Sverchevsky was completed. This was reported by the spokesman of the Regional State Forestry Administration of Krosno Edward Marshalk.

To disassemble of the monument began last week. As Marshallek said, the company, responsible for demolition had time until March 9 to dismantle monument, but it managed to do it before.

The main elements of the monument, that is, the eagle from the reinforced sheet, the head of the general, the table and inscriptions passed to the Institute of National Remembrance of Poland.

The total demolition of the monument cost 52 thousand zlotys. Expenditures were covered by the cemetery of Baligorod. The thorn on which the monument standed was under the Baligorod`s cemetery control. The money will be returned from the state budget.

It remaines unknown what is going to be there instead of the monument. Hunting ground Baligorod wants to hold discussions on the development of the project.

A week before, Edward Marshallek said that there would be a table on this site stating that there was a monument to General Sverchevsky. “We want this place, which already has a car park and which exists in the minds of the Beskid tourists, has survived as a touristic one,” he said. Among others, there is the idea of ​​setting up an arboretum there.

The monument was demolished, because, according to the Institute of the Polish National Memory, it contradicts the principles of respect for national memory, as well as violates the provisions of the Criminal Code, which prohibit the glorification of totalitarian regimes.

Recall that other elements of the monument to Sverchevsky were transferred to the Museum of Propaganda Monuments. The monument designed be Frantchishek Strynkevych standed on the spot where Sverchevsky died, was fatally injured in the battle with the Ukrainian Insurgent Army soldiers on March 28, 1947 (UPA did not abolish responsibility for this action, although there are still a lot of uncertainties in the case – ed.).

The death of Sverchevsky in the battle with the UPA provoked the communist government of Poland before the deportation of all Ukrainians to the so-called returned lands in the north and west of the country, before the operation “Wisla”.

Karol Sverchevsky and his monument are a symbol of anti-Ukrainianism for Ukrainians in Poland.
