Ukraine’s Zelensky sends Poland best wishes on Independence Day
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky extended his wishes to Poland on the occasion of National Independence Day. It is reported by Upmp.news with reference to “Polskie Radio”.
‘On behalf of the Ukrainian people, I congratulate the President of Poland and the entire Polish people on the Republic of Poland’s National Independence Day. May your independence be invincible and eternal,’ President Volodymyr Zelensky wrote in a post on the X platform.
He stressed that Ukraine and Poland were standing together. ‘Our nations are bound together by a common aim and value of freedom. Every time we stood together, we changed history for good and won. Together, we are at least twice as strong’, Zelensky wrote.
The Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal, also extended wishes to Poles on the occasion of the National Independence Day. ‘I extend my sincerest wishes to Poland and the Polish Nation on the occasion of Independence Day! We appreciate your solidarity with Ukraine. I thank every Polish Family that supported Ukrainians in the most difficult times. I wish Poland prosperity and prosperity!’, wrote Szmyhal.
On November 11, 1918, Józef Piłsudski was appointed supreme commander of the Polish army by the Regency Council. To commemorate this event, Poland celebrates National Independence Day. The holiday was first established by the Polish lower house, the Sejm, in 1937. It was abolished in 1945 during communist rule and no official celebrations were held during that period. Despite this many Poles remembered that date and kept its memory alive until the holiday was officially restored in 1989 after the collapse of communism. Now Independence Day is celebrated each year with ceremonies across the country.
