Ukraine makes advances in Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia in counteroffensive against Russia: officials
Ukrainian troops continue to make gains near the eastern city of Bakhmut and towards the southern port of Melitopol in their counteroffensive against Russia’s invading army, military officials in Kyiv have said. It is reported by Upmp.news with reference to “Polskie Radio”.
Ukrainian forces on Tuesday continued offensive operations in the Melitopol direction in the southeastern Zaporizhzhia region and offensive actions in the Bakhmut direction, in the eastern Donetsk province, Ukraine’s General Staff said.
Ukrainian forces kept up their advance in both those directions, the RBC-Ukraine news agency reported, citing Ukraine’s military command.
There were a total of 20 combat clashes on Tuesday, according to officials.
Ukrainian troops inflicted losses on the occupying forces in terms of personnel and equipment and wore down Russian forces along the entire front line, Ukraine’s General Staff said.
Russian attacks
In all, Russia on Tuesday carried out seven missile strikes and 73 airstrikes, including on port infrastructure of the southern Odesa region, as well as making 37 artillery attacks on the positions of Ukrainian troops and on civilian settlements, according to officials in Kyiv.
There were casualties and injuries among Ukraine’s civilian population as a result of these Russian attacks, RBC-Ukraine reported.
Residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure suffered damage and destruction, officials said.
Ukrainian strikes
In the course of Tuesday, Ukraine’s air force conducted 12 strikes on concentrations of Russian personnel, weaponry and military equipment, RBC-Ukraine reported.
In addition, Ukraine’s missile forces struck four Russian artillery pieces, three concentrations of Russian personnel and military equipment, as well as one command post and two ammunition depots, according to the Ukrainian General Staff.
In its ongoing counteroffensive against Russia, Ukraine is seeking to encircle and recapture Bakhmut in the east, while also pushing through Zaporizhzhia in the southeast, in a bid to reach the port of Melitopol on the Sea of Azov, splitting Russian forces, according to news outlets.
Wednesday is day 581 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, launching the largest military campaign in Europe since World War II.
