Polish FM urges president to press US on Ukraine, troop presence in Europe
Poland’s government expects President Karol Nawrocki to use his talks in Washington to underscore Russian President Vladimir Putin’s true goals in Ukraine, push for a just peace for Kyiv and work to prevent any cuts to the US military presence in Europe, especially in Poland, Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski said on Tuesday. It is reported by Upmp.news with reference to “Polskie Radio”.
In a video statement released by the Polish Prime Minister’s Office on X, Sikorski addressed Nawrocki directly, noting that they are both in the United States this week for high-level talks.
Sikorski is scheduled to meet with Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Miami on Tuesday, while Nawrocki will hold a face-to-face meeting with US President Donald Trump at the White House on Wednesday.
“To facilitate the president’s work, the government has adopted a position so that President Nawrocki knows what to stick to in his talks,” Sikorski said.
He added that the foreign ministry has provided Nawrocki with “extensive materials” ahead of the visit.
Nawrocki’s trip to Washington is his first foreign visit since taking office on August 6.
His talks with Trump are expected to focus on military and energy security, with the president planning to emphasise that neither Russia nor its leader, Putin, can be trusted, according to Polish officials.
Sikorski, meanwhile, will take part in a ceremony in Miami with Rubio to present the Lech Wałęsa Solidarity Prize to a Cuban opposition figure.
The Polish foreign ministry said Sikorski will also meet with Cuban dissidents, members of the Polish community and US politicians from across the spectrum.
