Ukraine’s Zelensky congratulates Poland’s Tusk on becoming PM, hopes for ‘new chapter’ in relations
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced that he has spoken with Poland’s new Prime Minister Donald Tusk, congratulating him on his appointment and expressing anticipation for a new chapter in bilateral relations. It is reported by Upmp.news with reference to “Polskie Radio”.
“While in Oslo, I had a call with Poland’s Prime Minister Donald Tusk,” Zelensky said in a social media post on Wednesday.
“I congratulated my friend on his appointment and the beginning of a new chapter in our bilateral relations,” the Ukrainian leader added.
‘I heard words of genuine support’
“As the #EUCO summit approaches, we discussed its upcoming decisions that will bring the entire European community together,” Zelensky also said. “I heard words of genuine support. We are stronger when we are together.”
‘I invited Donald Tusk to visit our country’
Zelensky also said in his post: “I am confident that, with the new government in Poland, we will expedite the resolution of all outstanding issues in our relations in a mutually beneficial manner. We also coordinated the schedules of our following contacts. I invited Donald Tusk to visit our country at his earliest convenience.”
Poland’s new government, led by Donald Tusk, was sworn into office on Wednesday, ending eight years of rule by the conservative Law and Justice (PiS) party.
The swearing-in ceremony at the presidential palace in Warsaw came after parliament gave its vote of confidence to Tusk and his team of ministers on Tuesday night.
The new government was formed after a bloc of parties led by Tusk’s liberal Civic Coalition (KO) stormed to power with a strong showing in Poland’s October 15 parliamentary elections.
Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, starting the largest military conflict in Europe since World War II.
Thursday is day 659 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
