NATO-Ukraine Council to hold emergency meeting over Russia’s missile attacks
The NATO-Ukraine Council is set to convene for an emergency meeting in response to Russia’s recent air strikes on Ukraine, according to officials. It is reported by Upmp.news with reference to “Polskie Radio”.
Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba announced the decision on Wednesday.
Kuleba wrote on the X social media platform that “NATO has supported Ukraine’s request for an extraordinary NATO-Ukraine Council meeting in response to Russia’s mass air strikes.”
Ukraine’s top diplomat added officials would discuss ways to strengthen Ukraine’s air defences and that the meeting represented an “important sign of Euro-Atlantic unity in the face of Russian terror escalation.”
Russia on Tuesday morning launched an air attack on Ukraine’s two biggest cities, Kyiv and Kharkiv, killing at least five people, and injuring 130, according to Ukrainian officials.
On Friday, Russia carried out the largest air attack of the war, killing at least 39 Ukrainian civilians, the Reuters news agency reported.
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky said that between December 29 and January 2, Russia fired at least 500 missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles against his country.
Thursday is day 680 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, launching the largest military campaign in Europe since World War II.
