THE MEETING OF THE HEAD OF POLISH FOREIGN MINISTRY AND VICE-PRESIDENT OF THE EUROPEAN COMMISSION
Minister Jacek Chaputovich will meet with Franz Timmermans. This is part of a “new discovery” in the Warsaw-Brussels relationship. It is reported by Upmp.news with reference to Polish Radio.
Both politicians will meet on Sunday, January 21, in Brussels. The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Poland arrived in the capital of Belgium to talk with the NATO head of the state.
Head of the Polish Foreign Office Jacek Chaputovych expressed the opinion that the tone of the Polish-European Commission needs to be changed. “I also want to demonstrate some kind of opening to cooperation, to explain our position. I believe that Poland is right in this dispute, and we want to present it calmly. I asked for a meeting with Frans Timmermans to show goodwill, to establish personal contacts,” said Minister Jacek Chuputovych.
Vice-President of the European Commission, France Timmermans, has recently criticized Poland for the most recent changes in the Polish judicial system, and earlier in the Constitutional Tribunal (the Constitutional Court of Poland) and the public media. According to Minister Jacek Chaputovich, other recent meetings – Prime Minister Mateusz Moravecki with the head of the European Commission and the Minister Chaputovich with his German counterpart – aimed at changing the tone in the relations between Poland and Brussels.
Last November, Brussels launched a preparatory procedure for the opening of Article 7 of the EU Treaty against Poland, in connection with the reform of the judicial system in Poland. Brussels also criticizes Warsaw for the changes that took place in the Constitutional Tribunal and the public media and the fact that Poland did not accept refugees within the framework of the European Union mechanism.
