Ukraine officially informed the European Union of gas supply problems that arose through the actions of Russian Gazprom and provided the European Commission with evidence of violations by the Russian Federation.
This was stated by Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin in Lviv.
“Ukraine has acted appropriate mechanisms. We are actively communicating with the European Commission. From her side, Vice-President Mr. Sheffovich is responsible for this. One mechanism – based on the Association Agreement, i.e. a special mechanism for early warning for crisis situations in the energy crisis. Ukraine provided all evidence of what Russia’s Gazprom does, which, despite lower gas pressure, has cut it by 20%. Russia hopes that we will begin to select transit gas, and then they will accuse us of crises, as it was already in 2009. These are banal swindlers. We will not do this. We will be consistent. We say to the European Union: You can send your observers. We will show what pressure Russia makes as it manipulates and how it does not fulfill its obligations,” Klimkin said.
In addition, the Ukrainian side invited the European Commission to convene talks in the tripartite format of Ukraine-EU-Russia.
Pavlo Klimkin assured that Russia “will not be able to loosen up”.
“I commissioned the ambassadors to inventory the assets of Gazprom, so that if necessary, we were ready to go with lawsuits. We will definitely get them out,” promised the Minister.
