THE PRESIDENT OF POLAND WILL SPEAK AT THE UN SECURITY COUNCIL TODAY

Andrzej Duda will talk about the need to respect international law and the safety of weapons of mass destruction. It is reported by Upmp.news with reference to Polish Radio.

Polish President Andrzej Duda will spend several hours in New York. Tonight the Head of Poland flew to the United States. He is to take part in the debate at the UN Security Council in the afternoon.

This is the first visit of the Polish President to the United Nations, since Poland officially became a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council in January. Andrzej Duda will take part in the debate on weapons of mass destruction organized by Kazakhstan, which presides over the Council. In particular, the Polish president will talk about the need to respect international law and emphasize that the preparation for aggression itself is already a violation of law.

“From the very begining, the development of aggressive potential is inextricably linked with the violation of international law. This law should clearly regulate issues related not only to real aggression, that is to say, war, but also to potential aggression against other states,” said Krzysztof Szczarski, the head of the Polish President’s office.

According to the Prime Minister, Andrzej Duda will also meet with Secretary General Antonio Gutarres. “This will be a discussion of UN plans for this year, for the nearest future, on peacekeeping missions, about the main topics of the UN work in the nearest future,” – Szczarski emphasized.

Andrzej Duda will also meet the master of the debate in New York – the president of Kazakhstan and the ambassadors of the countries of the European Union to the United Nations. The President of Poland wants to convince the EU countries to represent a common position on the Security Council.

Foreign Minister Jacek Chuputovych arrived in New York with the President of Poland, who will take part in debates devoted to the situation in the Middle East tomorrow, January 19, after Andrzej Duda’s return to Poland.
