Ukrainians tried to smuggle 160 kg of fish caviar from Poland to Ukraine
Two Ukrainian citizens illegally transported Italian caviar in the amount of almost 300 thousand euros. It is reported by Upmp.news with reference to Polish Radio.
Two Ukrainians tried to smuggle into Ukraine 160 kg of fish caviar worth more than 1.2 million zlotys (290 thousand euros). Caviar was transported from Italy in unmarked containers. Men also did not have the necessary permissions. This was announced on Monday, March 5, at the Polish Border Guard Service. The product was detained.
According to the spokesman of the Beskydy Division of the Border Guard Service in Przemysl, Major Elzbieta Picor, the goods were detained on Sunday at the Polish-Ukrainian border crossing point “Kroszenko” in Podkarpackie Voivodeship.
When checking two private cars travelling from Poland to Ukraine, the Border Guard officials found glass and plastic containers without labeling.
“It turned out that this is illegal cargo from Italy caviar of the Siberian sturgeon. This is an expensive commodity, the most expensive caviar. The drivers asserted that they were only couriers, and their task was to bring goods to consumers in Lviv”, said Major Picor.
She stressed that, according to the law, only one bank of caviar of sturgeon fish is allowed to be transported across the border. This is up to 125 grams per person in individually labeled packages, that is, they have a label confirming the legality of the source of purchase. Otherwise, it is a crime punishable by imprisonment up to 5 years. Drivers are citizens of Ukraine at the age of 24 and 28 who did not have permits to import a large number of caviar. In addition, the containers of the goods were not marked.
Polish border guards detained goods, and open criminal proceedings against Ukrainians.
