WITOLD WASCHIKOVSKY ON THE CHALLENGES OF POLAND AS A MEMBER OF THE UN SECURITY COUNCIL.

One of the challenges is the possible UN peacekeeping operation in the Donbass region. It is reported by Upmp.news with the reference to Polish Radio.

Poland faces important challenges in concerning becoming a member of the UN Security Council, said Polish Foreign Minister Vitold Vaschikovsky. In a few days Poland will receive non-permanent membership in the Council in sixth time.

The head of Polish diplomacy reminded that for Poland joining the UN Security Council is an important event:

One of the problems to be solved is the UN peacekeeping operation on the territory of Donbass, which became the territory of the conflict between Russia, the pro-Russian separatists on the one hand and Ukraine on the other. Another challenge that the world is facing is what to do with the territory liberated from the Islamic state. These are destroyed lands and the people who suffered greatly and have been tortured during the occupation of the Islamic state.”

Vitold Vaschikovsky added that the actual OSCE mission to Donbass is not effective in presence, that’s why the opportunity of possible UN peacekeeping operation should be discussed. However, according to the diplomat holding such a mission could be difficult.
