WHAT POROSHENKO AND VOLKER SPOKE ABOUT

A representative of the United States visited Ukraine before meeting with Surkov. It is reported by Upmp.news with reference to the TSN.

Russia must demonstrate the political will for a peaceful solution of the conflict in the Donbass and agree to host a peacekeeping mission in the occupied territories of Donetsk and Lugansk regions.

This was discussed during a meeting between the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and the Special Representative of the President of the United States in Ukraine Kurt Volcker.

The parties expressed serious concern about the lack of progress in the implementation by Russia of the security provisions of the Minsk agreements. It was noted that the absolute priorities are the consolidation of the regime of a permanent and comprehensive cease-fire and the withdrawal of Russian occupation troops from Ukraine.

Among other thing, Poroshenko and Volker discussed the release of Ukrainian hostages at the end of last year and the importance of completing this process.

Attention was also drawn to the adoption of the Law of Ukraine on the Reintegration of the Occupied Territories as an element of a joint strategy to restore Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Poroshenko and Volker emphasized the priority of the peaceful, politico-diplomatic way of settling the situation on the Donbass.

Volker hopes to see progress in the issue of peacekeepers for Donbass in January, since the latest talks on a peacekeeping mission with the assistant to the Russian president, Vladislav Surkov, have not been successful, but in January the situation may change.

And I still hope that we will be able to achieve this, and that Russia wants to solve all these issues and restore the territory of the Donbas to Ukraine. In this sense, our November meeting has become a disappointment that we have not made progress in this matter. But we hope to hold a new meeting in January. And I hope that then we will be able to make progress. We`ll see.”- he said.
