Volodymyr Zelenskyy: Ukraine and Poland can restore the positive dynamics of bilateral trade

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy hopes that the Ukrainian-Polish economic forum in Odesa will bring concrete and real practical achievements. It is reported by Upmp.news with reference to Official website President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

The President of Ukraine stated this during a conversation with media representatives following a meeting with President of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Duda in Kyiv.

According to Volodymyr Zelenskyy, despite the slowdown in bilateral trade for objective reasons in the first half of 2020, Ukraine and Poland can resume the positive dynamics and growth of previous years.

“Such optimism is given by the volume of Polish investments in the economy of Ukraine, active cooperation between our regions and the implementation of important joint projects,” he said.

The President of Ukraine stressed the importance of resuming the regular work of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation.

Separately, the President noted that during Andrzej Duda’s visit to Ukraine, the parties signed a number of important documents that provide clear prospects for increasing investment in the Ukrainian economy and combining transport and transit potential.

“Tomorrow, Mr. President and I will be in Odesa, at the Ukrainian-Polish economic forum. Government officials, business circles, representatives of the regions of both countries will discuss cooperation in the fields of transport, transit, energy and infrastructure. We expect that this forum will bring concrete and real practical achievements,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed.

In addition, the President of Ukraine noted that in order to provide Ukrainian citizens with proper consular care, he approved a decision to establish a new Consulate General of Ukraine in Wrocław.

“I expect it to start working next year,” he said.

President of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Duda stressed that economic cooperation with Ukraine is of great strategic importance.

“We want Ukraine to approach the level of Western Europe in terms of economic development,” Andrzej Duda said.

He reminded that last year the trade turnover between Ukraine and Poland amounted to 7.5 billion euros, and 1,200 Polish companies operate in Ukraine.

“Last year, these elements decreased. This was due to the closure of our economies, due to the coronavirus pandemic. I am convinced that we must do everything possible to get through this period in the best possible way and prevent damage to as many enterprises as possible on both the Polish and Ukrainian sides, as well as joint ventures. So that after the pandemic, after we overcome it, we can continue our cooperation and build Polish-Ukrainian economic relations,” the President of Poland noted.

According to him, the agreement signed by the Polish company Polskie Górnictwo Naftowe and Gazownictwo S.A. (PGNiG) and the State Property Fund of Ukraine on non-disclosure of confidential information about privatization objects by a potential buyer will also deepen cooperation.
