BORDER CONTROL IS INTENSIFIED ON THE EASTERN BORDER OF POLAND OWING TO THE ASFV VIRUS SPREADING

One of the factors influencing the spread of the disease is the import of food from the eastern border. It is reported by Upmp.news with the reference to Polish Radio.

Emplyees of the Krai Tax Administration are monitoring the checkpoints at the eastern border of Poland owing to the spread of the African swine fever virus. One of the factors influencing the spread of the disease is the import of food from the eastern border.

Strengthened control is especially needed now when number of people crossing the eastern border of Poland increases due to Christmas and New Year holidays in our neighbors` countries. In general, last year, we detained nearly 200 tons of animal products that were transported by travelers, especially at border crossings with Ukraine, but also with Belarus and Russia. They are to be destructed,” said Piotr Pogozzhelsky from the Customs Department of the Krai Tax Administration.

During the last year, customs officers imposed around 3.5 thousand fines in the cases of persons who did not comply with the ban on the import of products of animal origin from outside the European Union.

The Veterinary Inspection states that food imported illegally from outside the EU could affect the development of the African swine fever virus in the Warsaw region. The last case of the onset of this disease was confirmed there on the last Thursday.
