POLAND WILL DEFEND THE OBSERVANCE OF INTERNATIONAL LAW IN RELATION TO UKRAINE AT THE UNITED NATIONS

The main goal of Polish participation in the UN Security Council is the onslaught of respect for international law, in particular regarding Russia`s aggression towards Ukraine, the head of the Foreign Ministry said. It is reported by Upmp.news with reference to Polish Radio.

Minister for Foreign Affairs of Poland Jacek Chaputowicz participated in the UN Security Council meeting devoted to issues of Afghanistan and Central Asia in New York. In a conversation with correspondents of Polish Radio, the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs presented Poland’s priorities. According to him, at the UN forum, Poland wants to show that it is an important state. As part of the work of the Security Council, Warsaw will focus on the need to respect international law.

For Poland, international law is the basis of the international system, and the situation that violates it – and this is also happening in the neighborhood of Poland, in the east, in relation to Ukraine – does not serve as a security assurance,” said Jacek Chaputovych, Polish Foreign Minister.

On Tuesday, 18 January, the president of Poland, Andrzej Duda, said that the observance of law is an element of international solidarity. And on Friday, January 19, Foreign Minister Jacek Chuputovych drew attention to this issue during the debate on the situation in Afghanistan.

The head of the foreign ministry also warned that Poland will strive to a greater extent than before to take part in an attempt to resolve the conflict in eastern Ukraine.

The UN Security Council is the body that decides on the most important issues related to the peace in the world and has the right to impose sanctions on Member States. Poland is a non-permanent member of the Security Council for two years – from the beginning of January this year to the end of 2019.
