Polish national expedition to K2 ended with nothing

The national expedition on the slopes of K2 lasted from the beginning of January. It is reported by Upmp.news with reference to Polish Radio.

After more than two months, a national expedition to K2 (Chogori) has been completed. Its leader, Krzysztof Wielicki, together with other participants, today has made a decision to stop the expedition to the last mountain. First of all, the safety of the Polish climbers influenced his decision.

In the morning, Janusz Golomb and Adam Bielecki came to explore the route. “The conditions they encountered near the farther base were very unfavorable”, says to Polish radio Marek Khmelyarsky, one of the members of the expedition: “There was a lot of snow there, a complete lack of static ropes.”

In addition, according to the forecast, there was only one short weather window before the himalayas. Taking into account the lack of appropriate acclimatization, the attempt to reach the top would be too risky,” explains Janusz Meier, head of the program “Polish Winter Himalayas”: “There is no second weather window that would allow us to reach the summit.”
