UKRAINIAN WANTED TO ENTER POLAND WITH FAKE LATVIAN PASSPORT

As, the spokesman of the Beskid Division of the Border Guard Service, Elzbieta Picor reported on Thursday, February 22, a 38-year-old man, intending to enter Poland, presented a biometric passport at the border checkpoint.

“The border guards found that the page with personal data has been changed, in addition the passport had been registered in the European police database as lost,” said Major Picor. “The fact of falsification of the document was also confirmed by the Latvian police, who reported that in fact the passport was issued to another person,” she added. In addition, Polish border guards found the man’s original Ukrainian passport.

A citizen of Ukraine has been charged with committing a crime. The man confessed of usage the modified document and said that he had paid 850 euros in Latvia to obtain a passport.

In connection with the use of a fake document during border control, a Ukrainian is compelled to pay a fine of 2 thousand zlotys (480 euros). In addition, a person should pay a fine of PLN 500 (EUR 120) for illegal crossing of the border and illegal stay. The man was also on the obliged to return to Ukraine and banned from entering the territory of the Schengen zone for 6 months.

Major Picor said that this is the first case of the use of a false passport at the border crossing points of the Beskydy Department of the Border Guard. In 2017 there were four such cases registered.
